希特勒和占星者 - 古德明
Adolf Hitler is known to frequent astrologers, soothsayers and others of that ilk. According to a story circulated during World War Ⅱ, he asked a certain astrologer, "On what day will I die?"
After peering over his charts, the astrologer announced, "You will die on a Jewish holiday."
Much perturbed, Hitler demanded, "Which one?"
"I do not know," replied the astrologer.
Hitler became very angry, and shouted, "You must know. I insist upon the truth."
"I do not know," persisted the astrologer, "because any day you die will be a Jewish holiday."
眾所共知，希特勒經常顧問占星者、占卜者等等。第二次世界大戰期間，就有一個故事流傳，說希特勒曾經問一占星者：「我將於那一天去世？」
那占星者細看圖表之後，說道：「你將於一個猶太人節日去世。」
希特勒很不高興，問道：「那一個節日？」
占星者回答說：「我不知道。」
希特勒悖然大怒，高聲說：「你一定知道，我要你直言無隱。」
占星者還是不改口，說道：「我不知道。因為你不論那一天去世，都會是猶太人的節日。」
*Ilk是「種類」或「家族」，多見於of that ilk一語，常帶貶義，例如：I don't enjoy the company of people of that ilk（我不喜歡跟那樣的人來往）。
