問：Quiet（安靜、寂靜）作名詞，和quietness有什麼分別？
答：這兩個字往往通用，但也有不同：quiet常用來說不受騷擾的狀態，quietness則常用來說人、物沉靜的特色，例如：（1）The quiet / quietness was calming（那寂靜使人心平氣和）。（2）Let me have a little peace and quiet（我想安靜一下）。（3）There is an air of quietness about him（他舉止沉靜）。
問：「告訴某人」英文可不可以說to suggest to someone that？例如：You did not arrive for work and suggested to the manager that you had the flu（你沒有上班，向經理說患了感冒）。
答：讀者示下那一句，suggested（提議）to 二字，宜改為told（告訴）。至於suggest，其後可用to帶出向誰提議，也可用名詞片語（noun phrase）或名詞子句（noun clause）來說所提議的是什麼，例如：（1）He suggested to me a way to solve the problem（他向我提出解決問題的辦法）。（2）He suggested to us that we set off as soon as possible（他向我們提議說，最好盡快出發）。留意例句中的to me、to us，假如刪去，句子文法也正確。

答：Commit（致力）或commitment之後，可用ing動詞或原形動詞（infinitive）。讀者說的那一句，用produce或producing都沒有錯。
