魔鬼之作？ - 古德明
When the first telephone line was put in for King Ibn Saud* in Arabia, Moslem religious leaders protested against such innovations and works of the Devil from the land of the infidel.
Ibn Saud listened to their complaint and gave judgment: "If the telephone is really a work of the Devil, the holy words of the Koran will not pass over it; if the holy words do pass over it, it assuredly cannot be the work of the Devil. So we will appoint two mullahs, one to sit in the palace and one in the telephone exchange, and they are to take turns reading a passage from the Holy Book, and we will see."
By this test the religious leaders were convinced.
阿拉伯的伊本．沙特*國王最初安裝電話，回教領袖頗為不滿，反對異端邪說之邦傳來的魔鬼技藝。
伊本．沙特聽罷，自有主張，說道：「假如電話是魔鬼技藝，《可蘭經》的神聖文詞，不會經之而過；假如經而過之，電話就絕不可能是魔鬼之作。我們且委派兩個回教法律及宗教學者，一個坐在王宮之內，一個坐在電話局，由他們輪番誦讀經文，看看怎樣。」
這個測驗折服了那些回教領袖。
*伊本．沙特一九三二年把阿拉伯半島西北部的漢志、西南部的阿西爾、中部的內志、東部的哈薩，統一成為沙烏地阿拉伯王國，他就是第一任國王。
