問：Tomboy是不是指女同性戀者？
答：Tomboy只是個野丫頭，即香港人說的「男仔頭」，其所為、所喜歡的遊戲等，和「典型」的男孩相似，例如：My daughter is a tomboy who enjoys playing with toy guns and swords（小女是個野丫頭，喜歡玩玩具槍劍）。今天，tomboy一字頗有人非議，例如英語學者Godfrey Howard說：It was a word that confined women to a role that society imposed. The shift away from such attitudes has left "tomboy" as a sexist old-fashioned word that has no place in a society where women climb mountains, are cabinet ministers, leading barristers...（這個字把舊社會所定規範強加於女性。那些規範，社會已逐漸委棄，tomboy一字，帶性別歧視，不合時宜。今天的社會，有女人愛攀高山，或出任政府的部長，或成為一流的大律師……）。Tomboy可以是個女同性戀者，女同性戀者卻不一定是tomboy。
女同性戀者，英文可稱為a gay woman，但為什麼一般稱為a lesbian？按公元前七世紀希臘女詩人莎孚（Sappho）居於萊茲波斯島（Lesbos）。她寫了不少贊美女性的詩歌，裙下也有不少女性仰慕者，因此，後人就以sapphist或lesbian說「女同性戀者」。
問：「他五歲」英文是He is five year old還是He is five years old？
答：英文可以說He is five years old、He is a five-year-old boy或He is a five-year-old。
